Section 179 Deduction is now up to $2,560,000 for 2026 - Don't Miss This Opportunity!
🚛 2026 Section 179 Tax Deduction: Big Savings for Your Business
If you're thinking about adding a new work truck or van to your business, Section 179 may offer significant tax advantages in 2026.
Section 179 allows eligible businesses to deduct some or all of the purchase price of qualifying equipment and vehicles in the year they're purchased and placed in service, rather than depreciating the entire cost over several years.
That means purchasing a qualifying work truck in 2026 could provide a substantial deduction from your business's taxable income.
💰 2026 Deduction Limits
Maximum Section 179 Deduction: $2,560,000
Phase-Out Threshold: $4,090,000
If your total qualifying equipment purchases exceed $4,090,000, the available Section 179 deduction begins to phase out. Other limitations may also apply based on your individual tax situation.
100% bonus depreciation may also be available for qualifying property under current federal tax law.
🚚 Which Vehicles May Qualify?
Many commercial vehicles may qualify for Section 179, including:
Box Trucks
Dump Trucks
Chassis Cabs
Cargo & Work Vans
Heavy-Duty Commercial Trucks
Certain Specialized & Vocational Vehicles
A qualifying vehicle generally must be used for business more than 50% of the time and meet other IRS requirements.
Certain passenger vehicles and SUVs are subject to additional deduction limits. Check with your tax professional to determine whether a particular vehicle qualifies.
📆 Timing Matters
To claim a Section 179 deduction for 2026, a qualifying vehicle generally must be purchased and placed in service by December 31, 2026.
Financing a qualifying vehicle does not necessarily prevent it from being eligible for Section 179.
The vehicle generally must be ready and available for its intended business use during the 2026 tax year.
🧾 Here's an Example
Suppose your business purchases a qualifying Isuzu NPR-HD for $85,000 and places it in service during 2026 with 100% business use.
If the vehicle and your business meet all applicable requirements, you may be able to deduct up to the full $85,000 purchase price from your taxable business income, subject to applicable IRS limits.
A tax deduction reduces taxable income and is not a dollar-for-dollar reduction of your tax bill.
✅ Why Businesses Consider Section 179
Potential immediate tax benefits
Improved business cash flow
Replace aging equipment
Invest in newer, more reliable work vehicles
Help reduce costly downtime
